12 public elementary schools, 4 public junior highs and 8 public high schools make up the Modesto City Schools. There are more than 33,000 students in Modesto City Schools. Enrolled in programs reaching from infancy to adulthood, they are as diverse as the State of California itself: one in seven of the nation's children lives in California state. A growing number of these children are not fluent in the English language. In fact, Modesto City Schools serves more limited-English-proficient students than 97% of all other California school districts. Most schools in the MCS district offer full, healthy lunches for affordable prices: $2 for grades kindergarten to 6, and $2.50 for grades 7 to 12. Breakfast is also available for $1.50.
23 private schools also serve the Modesto region, 12 of which cover the full range of grades, from kindergarten or grade 1 to grade 12. Covering a variety of grade levels, religious affiliations and focuses, these schools and academies offer a quality alternative to the city's public schools. A list of these schools can be found at http://www.greatschools.net/schools.page?city=Modesto&state=CA&st=private&showall=true
Though no universities call Modesto home, there are numerous colleges and other higher education facilities, and the nearby big cities offer even more in post-secondary education. Modesto Junior College, Andon College and Yosemite Community College offer quality degrees in many different subjects, while the Galen College of Medical and Dental Assistants is more specific in its programming. North Adrians Beauty College, California Beauty School, Western Pacific Truck School, Cal-Trade Welding School, the National Training Institute (Electrical and electronics installation and repair) and Humphrey's College are other Modesto facilities. |
